Johnny Murtagh's two runners at Ayr on Wednesday afternoon both finishing second, with Angels Wrath filling the runner-up spot in the feature Tennent's Lager British Stallion Studs EBF Rothesay Stakes.

The daughter of Dark Angel belied odds of 80/1 when second in the Victor McCalmont Stakes at Gowran earlier this month and she picked up further black type under Ben Coen in this Listed contest.

Upped slightly in trip to a mile-and-a-quarter, the Newtown Anner Stud Farm owned four-year-old ran on well in the closing stages, going down by half-a-length at the line.

The race was won by the Roger Varian trained, Jim Crowley ridden Al Husn (5/6f), who was recording her fifth win from her last six starts.

Murtagh and Coen again hit the crossbar with Theophilos in the Absolut Vodka Handicap.

Successful at Tipperary last month, the Teofilo chestnut was sent off the 15/8 favourite and while he finished strongly, he ultimately went down by a neck.

Anthony McCann was out of luck with his three runners on the card, while over at Warwick the Louise Lyons-trained Espion Du Chenet (10/1) was second under Phillip Enright in the feature there, the Wigley Group Carnival Handicap Chase.
