The Willie Mullins-trained Tornado Flyer just repelled the challenge of Getaway John to make a winning debut in the concluding bumper at Fairyhouse this afternoon.
The Flemensfirth gelding, who is out of a half-sister to the great Hurricane Fly, went to post the even-money favourite for his racecourse bow.
Patrick Mullins produced his mount to lead under two furlongs from home but he had a real fight on his hands inside the final furlong.
Getaway John proved a big threat and pushed him all the way to the line with the newcomer just prevailing by head.
It was a double on the day for the champion trainer, with Saturnas also scoring in the beginners chase and he said:-
“John Turner, who had a winner recently with Squadron Commander, owns him with a few friends.
“He did it well. Hurricane Fly is in his pedigree and he showed that kind of toughness especially in the last 200 yards. He’ll go for a winners’ bumper.”
