Nouveau Moulin did her bit to boost the form of impressive Cork winner Golantilla by taking the bumper at Limerick in decisive fashion under Jonathan Burke.
The six-year-old gelding, 14 lengths adrift of the Cheltenham-bound expensive purchase when third at the Mallow track last time, swept to the front under two furlongs out.
The 7/1 chance was driven clear in the final furlong by Burke, partnering his fourth winner, and had six lengths to spare over Young Ambition (5/1) at the line with Shuilamach (5/1) in third.
Burke (17) is a son of well-known trainer Liam, and the leaving certificate student commented, “She never really travelled in Cork but picked up in the straight and galloped on well. The winner was very good on the day. I thought she would find the ground a bit too testing today.”
Winning trainer Joe O’Keeffe said, “She had a great run behind the hot-pot at Cork the last day and is a lovely mare. She has a superb pedigree being out of a half-sister to Newmill, and that’s where she got her name. We may go for a winners’ bumper with her now.”
O’Keeffe has four in training for the track at his base near Tallow in Co. Waterford.
