The Fahey family from Monasterevin were recently profiled in the main trade papers here and Brendan Fahey, son of Tommy (he is a farrier) and brother to fellow amateur rider, Mark, broke his duck in the plate by guiding his uncle Paul Fahey's Point The Toes to success in the Allied Bakeries Handicap Hurdle at Downpatrick.
Point The Toes is owned by the rider's grand-mother and trainer's mother, Maureen and the Atraf mare needed the full treatment from her young rider to get up and deny Breeze With Ease by two and a quarter lengths.
Brendan has a point-to-point win to his credit. He is 19 and took a day off from his course in outdoor activities and geography in Castlebar to take the ride here.
His father Tommy was on hand to welcome back Point The Toes to the winner's enclosure. The success for the Tramore maiden winner wasn't unexpected either as she was supported from a morning price of 11/1 down to her starting price of 11/2.
Of course Brendan now joins his brother Mark and cousins James and Ciara as winning amateur riders.
