< Staying Article looked a bright prospect when making a successful debut over jumps at Naas.
Winner on his first start in a bumper at Punchestown four weeks ago, Edward O'Grady's five-year-old foiled the odds-on favourite Rivage D'Or in the Racing Again At Naas On 24th November Maiden Hurdle.
The 4-1 shot, ridden by Andrew McNamara, got up close home to score by half a length.
O'Grady said: "He quickened up really well and he might have another run before being put away until the spring.
"He is progressing and looks to be going the right way. He is a nice horse, he jumps well and even over-jumped the last. He is in the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse at the end of the month."
Stan James gave Staying Article a 50-1 quote for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham in March.
Rivage D'Or's trainer Dessie Hughes had struck earlier with Frisco Depot (11-4), who outpointed Shot From The Hip and Cottrelsbooley to justify support in the Kingsfurze Maiden Hurdle.
"That was a good race I'd say and I'm delighted with him as he showed a lot of guts," said Hughes.
"He doesn't seem to mind that ground and he had run well at Galway over two miles first time back.
"He should be a nice novice hurdler over a trip and we'll look for something over two and a half miles for him now."< Derinlaur (8-1) gave Brian Cawley his first winner as a claiming professional when making all to land a mini-gamble in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle.
After giving his supporters a scare when making a mistake at the third last, he stayed on strongly to win by four lengths.
"We needed patience as he was off for two years. He obviously likes this track though as he won a bumper here by 15 lengths," said trainer Charlie Swan.
Injury-hit rider Joe Holly, who claims 7lb, had his first winner in over two years when scoring on John Supple's Burnswood 20-1 in the Tipper Road Handicap Hurdle.
