Jim Bolger was the toast of a very well attended Leopardstown on Wednesday evening when saddling four winners including Democratic Deficit who took the featured Ballycorus Stakes.
Jockey Kevin Manning, who partnered three winners for Bolger, had Democratic Deficit perfectly poised in fourth place early in the straight and hit the front just inside the final furlong to beat Zarad by a head.
But the 8/13favourite was fortuitous according to Bolger, 'we changed the bridle for today but he objected to it throughout the race. We were lucky to get away with it. Next, I wouldn't rule out going to Royal Ascot at York with him but I'll have to think about it.'
Con Collins, who watched the Jockey Club Of Turkey Silver Stakes from hospital after undergoing a series of operations on his leg after getting kicked at the Curragh in March, received a boost as his charge Chelsea Rose held on gamely from Merger (11/4fav) to land the spoils.
Chelsea Rose (3/1-4/1), off the track since winning the Moyglare Stakes at Curragh in September, got to the front 1 1/2furlongs out but was headed briefly by Merger 100yards from the line before regaining the advantage in her final strides to prevail by a head.
Collins' daughter Tracy said: 'We're very pleased. She needed the run and got the trip well. Her long-term target has always been the Irish Oaks but we might go for the Pretty Polly Stakes.'
The first of Bolger's tremendous haul was Ambika (12/1) who landed the opening EBF maiden in fine style.
The step up in trip to 7f after finishing 6th over 6f on her debut proved very successful. The filly hit the front over a furlong out under Kevin Manning and kept on well to hold off a late challenge from Priceoflove.
The Harry Dobson owned two-year-old will now be aimed at the Tattersalls Breeder Stakes at the Curragh in August.
Bolger's third winner came courtesy of What's Up Doc in the mile handicap. The 6/1 shot led under a furlong out repelling Ryninch by a head, who was running from 3lb out of the handicap.
Apprentice David Moran supplied Bolger with his fourth winner of a fantastic evening for the Co.Wexford trainer when partnering Koukalova (6/1) to a hard fought victory in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap.
The four-year-old filly stayed on well under Moran to take the lead close home from Kevin Prendergast's Annamoe Boy.
A major gamble went awry in the Rochestown Handicap when Tiffany Gardens was backed into 4/1favourite from 8/1 but could only manage to finish a disappointing seventh.
Woodland Dream, absent from the racetrack since October, ran out the two length winner in quite impressive fashion under a strong ride from Tadhg O'Shea.
