Review LEOPARDSTOWN 11TH JUN

Declan McDonogh gave Abunawwas a perfect ride to win the Group 3 Eircom Ballycorus Stakes in which the well-regarded and well-supported English raider Mount Abu (2/1-6/4) finished a disappointing fourth.

Jeremy Gosden's six-year-old has a whole host of impressive wins and placings under his belt but could find nothing when the Kevin Prendergast-trained Abunawwas (8/1), held up in rear throughout, swept through to lead inside the final furlong.

Kevin Prendergast made a quick return to the winners enclosure with Definate Spectacle (7/1) who proved to be a facile winner of the Kingston Handicap, scoring by an eased down two lengths from top-weight Fearn Royal.

Michael Kinane got favourite backers off to a winning start in the opening 7f maiden by making virtually all aboard Maroochydore (5/4-1/1) to claim a comfortable length and a half victory from the promising Champoluc.

Successful trainer David Wachman said of his filly: 'She was very green in front tonight but she won snug enough so we'll step her up in class. She'll make a nice filly towards the back end of the season.'

Aidan O'Brien's King Hesperus, who was demoted to second last time out at Gowran Park for causing interference to All Is Forgiven, gave his trainer no cause for alarm when scoring comfortably in the Rochestown Stakes.

Mick Kinane, securing a double, produced the 5/2 shot with over a furlong to run to beat Jemmy's Brother by two lengths, with All Is Forgiven a further four lengths back in fourth.

Royal South, ridden by Billy Lee, just failed to collar Bought Direct (8/1) on the line in the apprentice handicap where Jerry O'Dwyer eased down his mount but just held on by a rapidly diminishing neck.

Eckbeag (6/1), owned by RTE radio presenter Marian Finucane's partner John Clarke, ran out a comfortable winner of the 1m 4f handicap by beating Ballina Belle by three lengths.
