Review GOWRAN PARK 5TH APR

Trainer Liam Burke and jockey Davy Russell, both from Co Cork, recorded a notable double at Gowran today, claiming the two most valuable races with promising horses.

Thyne Again was the star of the Burke show, running out the impressive four length winner of the competitive www.gowranpark.ie Novice Hurdle.

Sporting his god-given four white stockings, the horse moved through to lead before two out, and showed impressive acceleration when drawing clear of Pedrobob to eventually win by four lengths.

Burke has previously issued very positive vibes about the 5yo gelding and again mentioned 'he is a very good horse.'

He added 'I didn't do much work with him after he won the last day but Davy (Russell) said he was better again today. He won't run on fast ground and will make a smashing chaser next season.'

An hour later Russell was again in a hurry home when arriving late to win the Paulstown Handicap Hurdle on Burke's Sir Frederick.

Carrying top weight, Sir Frederick raced in mid division before progressing to lead two out and although untidy at the last, kept on for a two length win.

Afterwards Burke reported 'he needs to be fresh to run well and I ran him too quickly at Naas last time. He's not a bad horse and will go chasing next season.'

The Herronville Maiden Hurdle saw Francis Flood's Knocknadruce maintain his 100% record in a dramatic race.

Monzo took a crashing fall at the second last when in line for a place while Knocknadruce benefited from final flight fall of Nowyouretalking, upsides at the time, with the race difficult to call between both horses.

The opening Great Oak Maiden Hurdle went to Jim Gorman's Amber Point.

Ridden by Paddy Flood, the son of Alzao tracked the leaders before moving through to lead before the second last, staying on well from the last to hold the staying on Sher Why Not by a head.

A subsequent stewards' enquiry into bunching between the first three finishers failed to alter the result.

Amber Point, a 79 rated Flat maiden, was gaining and overdue win and Gorman later reported 'he jumps super and will go novice chasing next season. Before that, he will go to either Fairyhouse or Punchestown.'

Co Sligo trainer Michael McElhone recorded his first winner at the track, when dual point to point winner Silver Side won the Thomastown Handicap Hurdle, under Ruby Walsh.

The concluding newcomers' bumper went to Noel Meade's well backed Casey Jones, under Nina Carberry.

As an aside, two potentially nasty incidents, involving inexperienced horses running out, highlighted the dangers of leaving hurdle wings on the track during bumpers.
