Willie McCreery's Peticoatgovernment landed the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Handicap at Cork today and the in-form trainer will also be hoping for a favourable result in today’s 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket for his well related filly.
McCreery and stable jockey Bill Lee were combining for their fifth winner in seven days with the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor, who was herself winning her fifth race today.
The Group 1 winning trainer later revealed “her brother Larchmont Lad (a Group 3 winner and 40/1 chance for the 2,000 Guineas) runs in the Guineas later and if he could finish placed, and if we were to get a bit of black-type, she’s then a valuable filly.
“She’s after winning plenty handicaps now and we’ll be just hunting for black-type now. It’s quick ground out there and that’s as fast as she wants it but she is after improving a lot.”
