Trainer Willie McCreery reports both his Matron Stakes runners have returned well from their Saturday efforts and while French 1,000 Guineas-placed Vespertilio might run again this year, Brownstown Stakes winner Jancis has finished her season.
Vespertilio won the Group 2 Debutante Stakes last year and having finished third in Longchamp's Poule d'Essai des Pouliches classic race in May, filled fifth position in the top-level Matron Stakes at Leopardstown ahead of July's Group 3-winning stablemate Jancis, in eighth.
McCreery reports “both came out of the race well and were fine afterwards. You won't see Jancis to next year now, she'll get a proper break and with Vespertilio we're deciding whether to run her once more or not.
“Vespertilio ran a solid race, Billy (Lee, jockey) felt she was just a little bit wide up the straight. He said she really quickened up and she hit the line really well.
“Hopefully Jancis will mature a lot. It was a bit unfair on her really to go into a Group 1 like that. She had been in Leopardstown twice and there was no crowd, and then there was a huge crowd at Leopardstown on Saturday. It was all a bit much for her.”
