John McConnell is aiming to have a couple of representatives in the £175,000 Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap at Newmarket next month.

Anna Bunina has been a flagship horse for his stable in winning 10 races including the Grade 2 Scottish Champion Hurdle in Ayr a couple of years ago.

It has a been a while between drinks for connections, however, she showed up well for a long way when fifth in a competitive handicap hurdle at Bellewstown last month.

Meanwhile, Caliyza is a French import who has yet to make her Irish debut after accruing two victories on the Flat in her native land.

The trainer said: "Anna Bunina did show more in Bellewstown and it turned into a bit of a sprint that race. Probably 2m4f around Bellewstown is too sharp for her, but she showed a good bit of life.

"She has a low weight in it (Cesarewitch) and we'll consider it if she is in good form.

"We have a nice other filly in it called Caliyza who is a half-sister to Calandagan who was second to City Of Troy (in Group One Juddmonte International Stakes at York).

"She has got a lot of interest since that race (at York) - she is a nice filly too.

"We will hold on to her for now, I'm sure she will go to the paddocks at some stage.

"We would like to have at least one of them if not both of them running."

Caliyza also holds an entry in the Friends Of The Curragh Irish Cesarewitch at the end of this month.
