Marlborough Sounds gives Mackay his first double Cork jockey Aaron Mackay grabbed his first double when winning the apprentice handicap in Killarney on board Marlborough Sounds. The step up to a mile and six did the trick for Marlborough Sounds who fought out the spoils in the final furlong with Danehill Quest. At the line there was just a short head between them with Marlborough Sounds getting the decision at 8/1. Danehill Quest went off 3/1 from 4/1. Jumellea couldn't land a blow in the final furlong and was four and a quarter lengths away in third at 5/1. Mackay got Marlborough Sounds home for trainer John Murphy who also supplied him with High Altitude (2/1f) in the preceding race. The trainer's son George Murphy said: "He didn't perform the last day and never travelled. Aaron gave him a lovely ride today and we're delighted." These were Mackay's first couple of winners in Ireland having grabbed his first winner at Wolverhampton in January. He has been based with Murphy for approximately eight or nine months.
