After registering his first track success at the age of 11 in October, Greenway Machine added to his tally in the Racing TV Free Month Trial Handicap Chase.
Last seen finishing fourth at Limerick a little over a week ago, the imposing Helen Markham-trained bay was sent off a 14/1 chance this evening.
Settled in third by Cian Cullinan, the Robin des Pres gelding came with his challenge on the approach to the second last and soon took over from Ennemi Public
However, the long-time leader battled back gamely, with the Peter Killeen-owned victor ultimately staying on best in the closing stages to prevail by three-quarters of a length.
The Danny Howard-trained runner-up, who got in as third reserve, was returned at 20/1, while Intersky Sunset (10/1) was another two-and-three-quarters of a length back in third.
Third over flights yesterday evening, Elegant Dan (5/1jfav) disappointingly pulled up, while Listenheretomejack the other joint-favourite, finished fifth.
"He is a lovely horse, an absolute cracker. That's his second win and he is an absolute dote," Markham enthused.
"He has been in great form and came out of his run at Limerick bouncing. It was his first run back at Limerick and I couldn't be happier with him. I only have a few for the track and I pre-train and have breakers as well.
"As long as he keeps going, I'll keep going! Once he is turning and twisting it keeps his mind right. That’s the key to him. The likes of Downpatrick and here suit him.
"Hopefully the handicapper won’t be too hard on him and he’ll take his age into consideration."
