Marina takes the Salsabil for Bolger/Manning The Jim Bolger trained Vociferous Marina sprang a 20/1 surprise in the Listed Coolmore Stud EBF Salsabil Stakes. Successful on her second start at the Curragh last September, the daughter of Vocalised disappointed on her seasonal debut in the Madrid Handicap at Naas last month. Fitted with a tongue strap for the first time today, she was settled towards rear by rider Kevin Manning. She was ridden and still had plenty to do with over two furlongs to race, however she really got going with over a furlong left to go, sweeping through to lead inside the final furlong, going on to score by a length and a half. The Aidan O'Brien trained Pocketfullofdreams (8/1), hit the front from the three furlong pole, but she couldn't hold off the winner, and had to settle for second under Donnacha O'Brien. Bengala, who was sent off the 7/2 favourite, didn't have the clearest of runs, and once in the clear she stayed on well to take third under Declan McDonogh for John Oxx. Jim Bolger said afterwards: "The trip and ground made a difference to her. "She had a good run at the Curragh last year. "We might as well try and go all the way with her now. I might just consider the Musidora or the Blue Wind at Naas. They are around the same time." Kevin Manning added: "She was impressive when she won her maiden at the Curragh. She went back to Naas and was a little bit awkward out of the gates, and I think she was just very, very green. "She didn't learn a great deal at the Curragh, as she came down the outside and done it so easy. When she got behind at Naas I think she just got a little bit lost. She was a different filly there today. "She got the trip well and will get further. They went a nice pace, she has a nice turn of foot and when we got down into the dip and met the rising ground she picked up well. "It was a competitive race and there was some nice fillies in it, she is obviously going the right way." Paddy Power go 20/1 about Vociferous Marina for the Irish Oaks.
