MUTAFAWEQ UP FOR THE CUP

Last year's Rothmans Royals St Leger winner Mutafaweq could make his seasonal return in the Merewood Homes Yorkshire Cup at York on May 20th.

The four-year-old, who suffered heat exhaustion after his brave defeat of Ramruma at Doncaster, is part of a 10-strong Godolphin team among the 40 entries for the Group Two race published today.

Saeed bin Suroor's squad also includes 1998 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sagamix and Kayf Tara, who missed last November's Fosters Melbourne Cup through injury.

There are two previous winners of the race among the entries, the Richard Hannon-trained Churlish Charm who took the contest last year and John Dunlop's Celeric, who claimed victory in 1997.

Other notable entries include Russian Hope, trained by Henri Pantall in France, and Vicious Circle, who landed the Tote-Ebor over course and distance in 1999 for Luca Cumani.
