MUSIC MISSES GREENHAM STAKES

Sagitta 2000 Guineas favourite Distant Music will miss the Lane's End Greenham Stakes at Newbury on Saturday, it was revealed today.

Last season's Dewhurst Stakes winner was set to have his prep race for the Classic in the Group Three race but connections are not keen on running the colt on testing ground.

Discussions will now take place to see if the Khaled Abdullah-owned three-year-old will be rerouted to the thehorsesmouth.co.uk Craven Stakes at Newmarket a week tomorrow.

Trainer Barry Hills said: "Distant Music will not run on Saturday.

"Whether he might participate in the Craven has to be discussed with the owner and his manager Mr Beckett and a decision will be made in the next few days."

Hills also has Seven No Trumps and Asaal in the race and the trainer added "Seven No Trumps will run.

"Sheikh Hamdan has other horses in the race but there wouldn't be any reason, if conditions were testing, why Asaal would not run. But that will also have to be discussed."

With further rain forecast at Newbury, it seems unlikely that ground conditions will dry out significantly before the first day of the meeting on Friday.

Estate manager Richard Osgood said: "The ground is now soft. We had 13.7mm of rain overnight, it was quite a downpour.

"In that rain there was sleet and snow which made it worse.

"There hasn't been much rain today but showers are forecast."
