MURTAGH COMES BACK DOWN TO EARTH

Sunday`s Longchamp hero Johnny Murtagh will have to pass the course doctor if he is to ride at Thurles tomorrow following a minor mishap at Fairyhouse this afternoon.

The 30-year-old jockey, who resumed on the Irish scene with 7-1 winner Pacific Union, was unseated from Tiergarten on the way to the start of the Clonalvey Handicap and sustained a slight muscle injury to his neck.

'He is stood down for the rest of the day and will have to be checked out if he is to ride at Thurles tomorrow,' said the Turf Club`s medical officer Walter Halley.

Pacific Union, a son of Seeking The Gold, finished strongly in the opening division of the Kilcloon Maiden to catch both the 20-1 chance Reina Blanca and odds-on favourite Snake Mountain to earn a crack at a Group race in the coming weeks.
