MONK DOUBTFUL FOR NATIONAL

The Grey Monk is unlikely to take his chance in the Martell Grand National although he is none the worse for a nasty tumble at Kelso on Friday.

The 12-year-old grey was under pressure and two lengths behind the eventual winner Paris Pike when coming down at the final fence in a 25-furlong handicap chase at the Borders track.

"He seems okay. I've done nothing with him since the fall, but it was a fair old tumble," his trainer Nicky Richards said this afternoon.

"We've had the vet over and the horse appears fine.

"We'll run him again, but the Grand National is a different matter. I would say he is doubtful at this stage.

"His owner (Alistair Duff) is away at the moment and we'll discuss it on his return next week."

The Grey Monk is quoted at 25-1 with Ladbrokes for the Grand National at Aintree on April 8th for which he is set to carry 11st 8lb.
