MONASHEE FLOP EXPLAINED

A reason has been found for Monashee Mountain's disappointing run in the French 2000 Guineas (Dubai Poule d'Essai des Poulains) at Longchamp last Sunday, it emerged today.

Sent off the 6-4 favourite for the one-mile Group One contest, the Aidan O'Brien-trained colt came home in fifth place, four and a quarter lengths behind the winner Bachir, after weakening approaching the final furlong.

However, in a statement to PA Sport, O'Brien said: "Monashee Mountain was found to have pulled a muscle in his shoulder after running in the French 2000 Guineas last Sunday at Longchamp.

"He will be on the easy list for the next 10 days after which he will be re-assessed."
