The Aidan O`Brien-Kinane-Michael Tabor team had the bookmakers running for cover again when the heavily-backed Minardi swooped late to take the Group One Middle Park Stakes.
Red Carpet appeared to be just getting the better of Bad As I Wanna Be and Pomfret Lad when Kinane delivered his challenge on the 5-6 favourite, who had been available at 13-8 in the offices this morning.
And running on strongly up the hill, Minardi got on top well inside the final furlong and passed the post one and a half lengths clear of Endless Summer (9-1), who did not have much luck in running but who finished well to snatch second place from Red Carpet (25-1).
Kinane said as he returned to the weighing-room: 'He is a lovely laid back horse, a free-flowing horse. Quicker ground will be much more to his benefit and he will get a trip.'
