Medicean has been supplemented for Wednesday's Champagne Lanson Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.
Owners Pat and David Thompson of the Cheveley Park Stud have stumped up #25,000 in the hope that there will only be a handful of runners in the Group One contest.
Chris Richardson, the stud manager, said: 'This is a lot of money to put up for a race but the way we've been reading things it will be a small field for the race.
'The horse worked very well on Wednesday, he's certainly a good-natured type and we're looking forward to him running well.'
Medicean, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, underlined his ability when finishing a close third in the St James's Palace Stakes over one mile at Royal Ascot.
But he was a bitter disappointment when hot favourite for the John Smith's Cup over an extended 10 furlongs at York.
'We're not saying he doesn't stay but based on what happened at York there is certainly an argument that we should come back to a mile,' said Richardson.
'However it's also true that he wasn't helped by being drawn out on the outside.
'There was a choice between the Sussex Stakes or the International Stakes over 10 furlongs but the owners preferred not to go back to York.
'But that isn't to stay that Medicean won't be tried over longer distances again later in the season.'
With Pat Eddery still suspended next Wednesday, a jockey is still undecided for Medicean.
Medicean was the only supplementary entry for the Sussex Stakes, meaning that Godolphin's Diktat will not be in the field.
The Dubai operation is likely to be represented by last year's winner Aljabr with Josr Algarhoud another possible.
Arkadian Hero is another probable starter but top filly Crimplene is more likely to tackle the Vodafone Nassau Stakes on Saturday week.
