Marlborough, whose racing career looked in doubt when he sustained a nasty cut to his leg in last season`s Ladbroke Casinos Scottish Grand National, is set to return to action on Friday.
The Nicky Henderson-trained eight-year-old won the William Hill National Hunt Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival prior to suffering his injury when finishing sixth behind Paris Pike at Ayr.
Marlborough has made a full recovery and is due to run in the Chubb Chase at Cheltenham.
'Friday is the plan,' Henderson told the Racing Channel. 'The trouble with this wet weather is it`s just making plans impossible to make.
'These horses are going to have to run somewhere. There`s no point waiting for the following week it`s not going to get any better. I`m sure Ascot aren`t going to tell us it`s going to be good ground on Saturday week.
'Kempton (December 26th and 27th) is coming up - it`s going to be on top of us in a minute. If they don`t run somewhere half the season is going to beover.'
