Adrian Maguire's wrist operation was today hailed a success and Middleham trainer Ferdy Murphy is looking forward to having his stable jockey back in about three months' time.
Maguire had a bone graft on his troublesome right wrist at the Ridgeway Hospital near Swindon on Wednesday.
'The operation went absolutely fantastic. I spoke to his wife Sabrina yesterday and she says he's in great order and that the surgeons are very pleased the way everything has gone,' said Murphy.
'It's a great time to get it done because there is very little happening. I would imagine he'd go across to his family in Ireland, have a break and come back a very fresh jockey for us which would be great.
'We are talking three months before he will be in full race fitness.
'Maybe he'll have a couple of rides in bumpers before then but I would think it would be three months before he is back but there is very little happening at this time.
Murphy has also ditched plans to prepare Paddy's Return for the Galway Plate at the Ballybrit course on August 2.
'Paddy's Return now doesn't go for the Galway Plate. He won't be ready in time,' the trainer said. 'We worked him and he looked just short. It would be so much of a rush that we've called that a halt.'
Murphy will use JP McNamara while Maguire is recuperating. 'We got a few running and JP will be all right on them whatever we have on the go,' added the trainer. PA
