Andrew Lynch expects to be back race-riding “in about ten days or so” as he continues to make a full recovery from a fractured arm and wrist suffered in a fall at the Fairyhouse Easter meeting back in April.
Lynch fractured his right humerus (upper arm) and left wrist when taking a fall from the Ado McGuinness-trained Fearless Falcon at the penultimate flight of the Grade 3 Weatherbys Ireland GSB Hurdle.
The recovery time has been quite slow for the Meathman, who enjoyed a memorable double the previous month on the Henry de Bromhead-trained pair Sizing Europe and Sizing Australia at the Cheltenham Festival.
However speaking at Galway Races this week, he is getting very close to a return to competitive action.
“I've been doing plenty of riding out recently down at Henry's, and hope to be back in about ten days or so. There is no point rushing back and I'm waiting until everything is right,” said Lynch.
Meanwhile Ruby Walsh is on schedule for a September return to the saddle having suffered crushed vertebrae in a fall from the Michael Hourigan-trained Friendly Society at Killarney earlier this month.
The eight times Irish champion jump jockey contributed to RTE's Galway Races coverage over the past few days sporting a neck brace.
“I've had my fair share of serious injuries over the past few years. They say they come in three's, so hopefully thats it for me. I hope to have the brace off in four to six weeks and then, after a bit of physio, I should be ready to go,” he said.
Widely regarded as the finest rider of his generation, Walsh has missed much of the past 18 months having broken his left arm in two places at Aintree's Grand National meeting in 2010 and then a double fracture of his right leg at Down Royal last November.
