Luisant gains a deserved success The Listed Jersey Race Club Waterford Testimonial Stakes is one of the oldest races run at the Curragh, over 150 years in existence and it saw a good winner in the shape of Luisant this year, with Colm O'Donoghue in the plate for James Nash. A consistent but luckless type, Luisant travelled like a dream and he got the better of the favourite, English raider Definightly (travelled very well too) by a convincing two and a half lengths. Nash said of London-based Jim McCarthy's winner: "Thank God. I was very tempted to put blinkers on him but I was convinced he was genuine. It just wasn't happening for him and he'll probably go for the Knockaire Stakes (October 31st) at Leopardstown next. "He was very impressive there and it is great to win a Listed race with him. It is a joy to have him seconditis or no seconditis."
