John Ryan will give Lucid Dreams another opportunity at graded level in the coming weeks as the trainer believes a change in tactics will help his promising chaser following a recent disappointment.
Held in high regard by Ryan, the eight-year-old has won four times this summer and won in effortless fashion on chase debut at Sligo in September.
At Punchestown last week, Lucid Dreams made much of the running, racing with front-running Hercule Du Seuil in a Grade 3 novice chase but ultimately paid the price for the strong pace, fading to finish third.
Ryan reports “Lucid Dreams ran too free and he needs to be dropped in. If he was dropped in, I think he'd have run a nice race. We'll look for something similar as he'll compete at that level.
"We toyed with the ideal of going to Cheltenham in November and if he had finished close to winner (at Punchestown) he might have gone. There's a Grade 3 novice over 2m4f at Cork (October 31) instead and he's a big strong horse so ground won't matter to him.
"His hurdles form is rock solid and he can go anywhere from two to three-miles."
