Lorr's Girl ran on strongly a furlong down to get up close home in division two of the Mallow Handicap at Cork for trainer Rodger Sweeney.

She kept coming for Jamie Powell and nabbed Akeela to score by half a length at 10/1. Akeela performed well in second at 12/1 and she was half a length in front of Dear Daphne (40/1). Each-way punters drew a return from fourth-placed I Bid You Ajou (7/1).

Powell said: "I rode her the last day when she didn't get home on the slower ground in Gowran (fourth) and I knew at the two (pole) today that she would be bang there, and she'd hit the line well.

"The lads said she is a bit tricky at home, but has ability and seems to be coming into to her own now. Hopefully, she can keep going the right way."

This was Lorr's Girl's breakthrough success at the 11th time of asking.
