Just over thirteen thousand people attended today's opening day of the inaugural Champions Weekend at Leopardstown, a figure which is likely to be deemed a success, given previous crowd figures on previous renewals of the Champion Stakes.

Today's crowd figure of 13,190 reads very favourably as target figures of 11,000 people at Leopardstown on Saturday and 8,000 at The Curragh on Sunday had been mooted. Today's figure also reads well when just over 9,000 attended Champion Stakes day in 2009, when legendary Sea The Stars raced in Ireland for the first and only time that season.
