The going is likely to ease at Galway today with rain set to move into the west this morning although it is expected to clear before an eight-race card commences at 5pm.
The going is currently Good for National Hunt racing and Yielding on the Flat track, but about 5-6mm of rain is forecast to arrive before day five of the Festival meeting.
Clerk of the Course Lorcan Wyer reported this morning: “We finished up last night on Good for National Hunt and Yielding on the Flat.
“It remains the same, no rain overnight but it looks like it will change from 9am this morning to 3pm this afternoon with 5-6mm coming in. It will be dry for racing.
“The forecast for the weekend is generally dry on Saturday, maybe the occasional shower, and Sunday looks a wetter day.
“We don’t know exact numbers but at this stage it looks like the heavier rain won’t arrive until later in the afternoon to evening.
“Today we are on the same racing line for the hurdle and Flat track. On the chase line we have gone in on some bends - the bend after the winning post and the bend after three out. The bend after the last has gone out.
“The distance will remain the same for both tracks today.”
The €110,000 Guinness Handicap at 6.35pm is the highlight on another mixed card and Sirius is a general 11/4 favourite to land a second feature race this week having recorded a shock 50/1 victory in the Connacht Hotel (Q.R.) Handicap on Monday evening.
