Trainer Mark Johnston today revealed that his stable star Fruits Of Love faces a race against time to be fit for his autumn campaign.
The Canadian International at Woodbine on October 15th had been the intended target for the five-year-old following his third behind Samum in the Grosser Preis von Baden earlier this month.
However a catalogue of setbacks to the horse, culminating in an attack of the metabolic disorder 'set-fast' on Sunday, has put those plans in doubt.
Speaking in his column in the Racing Post, Johnston said: 'We are doing everything in our power to get him back to normal but I am well aware that these things take time - weeks or even months.
'With the Canadian International now only three weeks away the chances of him performing there, at the Breeders` Cup, or maybe even in Japan, are now looking moderate at best.'
Fruits Of Love has been restricted to just two outings this season, winning the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot prior to his run in Germany.
