Lord Gyllene, winner of the 1997 Martell Grand National, could return to action over hurdles as part of his preparation for this year's race.
The 12-year-old, who has run only twice since his 25-length Aintree victory, has recovered from the pelvic injury that has kept him out of action since last February and is entered in the Velka Pardubicka Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster on Saturday.
Tony Dobbin, who partnered Lord Gyllene to his Grand National success, travelled to trainer Steve Brookshaw's Uffington base this morning to school the horse over fences.
And connections expressed themselves pleased with the Stan Clarke-owned gelding.
"He jumped all right this morning and Tony was happy with him," Brookshaw said.
"He's entered over hurdles at Exeter on Tuesday as well as Doncaster on Saturday and he's ready for a run.
"I'm going to discuss it with the owner before deciding what to do."
Lord Gyllene is currently priced at 40-1 with Ladbrokes for the Grand National.
