Review LIMERICK 17TH JUN

Aidan O'Brien's Charismatic Cat pounced to make it third time lucky in handicaps at Limerick today with the Ballydoyle team later completing a double with Down Mexico Way in the 1m4f maiden.

Surprisingly, Charismatic Cat took a walk in the betting ring before winning (7/2 to 6/1) the Events Parking Handicap while morning favourite and stablemate Jaguar On The Run was a late withdrawal due to the fast ground.

The winning son of Storm Cat eventually saw off the challenge of Gryskirk, who himself boasted some quite notable form, in what may prove a decent handicap in this grade.

Later in the evening Down Mexico Way scored a three and a half length success in the Limerick Leader Maiden under Seamus Heffernan.

Jockey Christopher Geoghegan completed a double combining with trainers Sean Treacy and Paul Cashman for a 29/1 brace.

The opening leg of Geoghegan's double was on Treacy's Shersha in the Budweiser Race. The winner led soon after halfway before eventually scoring a half length win over 4/6 favourite Macduff.

Afterwards, Treacy expressed his relief and the Co Carlow handler, who never has more than 22 horses in training at any one time, reported 'Shersha has been highly tried at this level and a second win was long overdue. She is tough and genuine and has two or three options at The Curragh next weekend.'

Geoghegan was also on board Paul Cashman's Enamoured in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap.

Amateur jockey Cashman, more at home on the point to point field, later reported 'Enamoured is in foal to Namid and has only a month of running left so Galway is probably out of the agenda.

We bought her from Amanda Perrett's yard at the Newmarket July Sales and she has a good pedigree.'

The opening two year old maiden went to Kevin Prendergast's Lucky Lucioni, who got up close home under Chris Hayes to beat Seal Colony by a neck.

Prendergast was absent but was represented by travelling head lad Buzzer Purcell who mentioned 'he didn't handle the heavy ground the first day he ran and could have won if he had an extra half furlong at Navan last time. He'll go for a nursery next.'

Jockey Fran Berry moved three clear of Michael Kinane at the head of the jockeys championship following his win on John Oxx's Artist's Muse in the Dolan's Warehouse Maiden.
