Mrs Evie Stockwell's Theann (9/4 in the morning into 11/8) went off favourite for the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes and though she only managed fifth, there was still joy in the outcome for the owner.
Theann was hampered a furlong and a half down and could find no extra thereafter. However also competing for Mrs Stockwell was the David Wachman-trained Liscanna and she prevailed narrowly.
With Wayne Lordan up, this half-sister to The Bogberry (Kieren Fallon's reappearance ride tomorrow), led close home to deny That's Hot by a neck. The same stable's Absolutelyfabulous was third.
Wachman commented afterwards, 'they went good and quick which suited, but she wouldn't want the ground any quicker as she is better with an ease.'
The win of Consulate in the 8.30 heralded the culmination of doubles for the sire Rock Of Gibraltar (also responsible for Truly Mine) and for trainer David Wachman and rider Wayne Lordan (39/1 brace).
Their De La Grandera found support from at least 7/2 in the morning into a returned 2/1, but he could not match the filly with the outstanding form credentials in the first, Truly Mine.
Dermot Weld's E200,000 yearling came here on the back of a fifth placing behind Finsceal Beo in the Irish 1,000 Guineas, around 3L behind the subsequent Epsom Oaks runner-up, Peeping Fawn then.
Pat Smullen aboard the 4/6 shot (touched 9/10) got to the front over 3 furlongs out, and after being strongly pressed early in the straight, she ran on well from over a furlong out for a comfortable 1 3/4L win.
With Observation Post easy in the market (2s in the morning out to 3s), the one for money was Elletelle (at least 10/3 for early shoppers into 5/2 favouritism) for the second.
On an evening that England (Terry Venables is the assistant coach) play Estonia, Elletelle was an appropriate victor, the filly getting up on the line to short head Pittori.
The Ger Lyons-trained once previously raced daughter of Elnadim, overcame a slight stumble leaving the stalls under Johnny Murtagh and her experience helped her get the better of the newcomer, Pittori.
Murtagh went on to complete a near 15/1 double in the Listed Glencairn Stakes. Here aboard Quinmaster for Michael Halford, he made all, holding off Cheyenne Star by a head.
Nine to two early in play and 4s into 7/2 on course, the Bill Durkan-owned first time cheek-piece wearer earned plenty of praise from his trainer in the aftermath.
Halford said, 'he is as genuine as they come but the cheek pieces just helped him to concentrate. He likes being in front and the bit of an ease in the ground also helped.'
Zarandja, a morning price mover, was unfortunate in 6th place in the 42 to 70 h'cap. This one went to Sean Treacy and Billy Lee, courtesy of Blackhall Claw.
Azalea, a half-sister to the ill-fated, Royal Alphabet, and a daughter of the pattern-class Flat performer, A-To-Z, took the concluding qualified riders 1m 6f maiden for Noel Meade and Nina Carberry.
In other news, Fran Berry picked up a four day careless riding ban for his effort on Grecian Dancer in the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes. A Steward's Enquiry did not amend the Judge's placings here.
