LEICESTER WASHED OUT

Saturday's card at Leicester today became the first weekend victim of the wet weather.

Racing was called off following an inspection this morning.

Clerk of the course Nick Lees said: "We only had a little rain overnight, one or two millimetres, but the place is waterlogged.

"And there is more heavy rain forecast for tonight and tomorrow.

"It is a lovely sunny day and the grandstand looks marvellous. But the ground is absolutely sodden and the stick goes in a foot.

"We have had five and half inches this month, by the end of tomorrow we will have had a quarter of our annual average rainfall in a month."

Saturday's card featured the Admiral Cleaning Supplies Leicestershire Stakes, a Group Three race due to be shown live on Channel 4.
