LEICESTER HOPEFUL

Following the abandonments - due to waterlogging - of yesterday`s meeting at Sedgefield and today`s Hexham card, officials at Leicester are hopeful today`s fixture will survive the wet weather.

Clerk of the course Nick Lees said: 'We are OK at the moment. There is no inspection planned but the forecast isn`t great and we don`t want heavy rain.'

Haydock Park`s programme for Saturday, featuring the Grade Two Tommy Whittle Chase and the Henry VIII Novices` Chase, which has been rescheduled from Sandown`s abandoned meeting last Saturday, is set to go ahead.

'The forecast is for wind and showers so hopefully - fingers crossed - we should be all right for Saturday,' a spokeswoman for the Merseyside track said yesterday.
