LEADING DERBY FANCIES STAND GROUND

Trainer Henry Cecil could still be triple-handed in the Vodafone Derby at Epsom on June 10 following today's forfeit stage.

Leading fancies Beat Hollow, Bien Entendu and Wellbeing were among 32 confirmations for the race announced today.

The trio's preparation for Epsom has been affected by a virus which has forced their trainer to bypass the traditional Derby trials.

There were no surprise withdrawals among the leading fancies for the race, while horses can still be supplemented for £75,000 on Saturday June 3.

Aidan O'Brien has left six horses in the race including last year's Racing Post Trophy winner Aristotle, who was demoted to third after finishing first past the post in the Prix Greffulhe at Longchamp last month.

The Ballydoyle trainer also has Apollo Victoria, Bach, Ciro, Giant's Causeway and Shakespeare in the race.

Godolphin have five possibles to choose from, Best Of The Bests, Broche, Hatha Anna, Inchlonaig and Roscius.

The first-named, third in the JWE Telecom Dante Stakes at York last week, looks Saeed bin Suroor's most likely runner.

King's Best and Barathea Guest, first and third respectively in the Sagitta 2000 Guineas stand their ground.

John Dunlop has Sakhee, winner of the Thresher Classic Trial and Dante Stakes, and Chester Vase winner Millenary in the race, while Gerard Butler aims for his first British Classic success with Gartner Derby Trial winner Saddler's Quest.
