John Gosden was a rare visitor to the all-weather meeting at Lingfield this afternoon as the popular Manton trainer registered his 1000th victory in Britain.
It was Much Ado who gave the handler his landmark win when making most of the running to take division one of the Faucets Maiden Stakes at 7-1 in the colours of owner-breeder David Simpson.
This year has been Gosden`s first since relocating from Newmarket to Manton, and it has not been without success as he saddled Lahan to win the Sagitta 1000 Guineas, his third British Classic.
He told the Racing Channel: 'Someone phoned me the other day and told me that since I came back to Britain in 1989, as well as having 54 winners abroad, I was on the 999-winner mark in Britain so that is number 1000!
'She`s a tough and very honest filly who has been hating the heavy ground we`ve been having on the turf and she was able to put her feet down here and get on with it.'
Not content with reaching four figures, Gosden made it to 1001 when Brioney dead-heated with Bold Precedent for the second division of the race 90 minutes later.
