Lahan produced a fine turn of speed to land the Sagitta 1000 Guineas in good style at Newmarket today.
Richard Hills held the daughter of Unfuwain up going well in the rear as Velvet Lady made the running at only a steady pace with Claranet and Godolphin's Bintalreef in touch on the outside.
With two furlongs to go Hills made his move and the 14-1 chance swept her 17 rivals aside approaching the distance before running on strongly to hold the staying-on Princess Ellen (66-1) by a length and a quarter.
Petrushka, the 6-4 favourite, was always struggling but to her credit she kept on gamely to finish third, three lengths adrift. Seazun finished fourth after having every chance.
Gosden, who moved to Manton over the winter, was saddling his first 1000 Guineas winner.
He said: 'There's a sense of relief. It's not been easy getting a filly ready this spring for anybody.
'I'm really thrilled for the staff at Manton because people have really pulled together well through a tough winter for us all.
'It's a credit to them that this filly's come here today.' -PA
