Maria Kelly saddled her first winner on the track when her charge Appraise landed the Gypsum Industries Handicap in the hands of Billy Lee.
Winning trainer Kelly said afterwards: “I’m delighted to have trained my first winner. I have four horses in training at the moment.”
“This fellow might go to Dundalk next week if he comes out of the race well. There’s a chance we might send him over hurdles. Although he has been with many trainers, he’s never actually run over hurdles.”
“He’s been well schooled and he jumps very well. The trip is a little bit of a worry but he appeared to settle well today.”
