KINGS MEASURE BOUNCES BACK

Malton trainer Malcolm Jefferson's faith in Kings Measure paid off when the seven-year-old gelding strode to success in the Entertain at Newcastle Novices' Chase today.

Kings Measure had taken heavy falls on both his last two starts, the latter at Gosforth Park in the valuable Castle Eden Dipper Novices' Chase.

But returned to the track 18 days later, he showed no signs of any ill-effects, jumping soundly throughout and forging ahead on the run-in to score by three lengths from What A Fuss.

His jockey Graham Lee went on to complete a double when Suggest took the closing Gosforth Park Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle 30 minutes later.

Colleague Robbie Supple had a day he will remember for less-fortuitous reasons.

The popular northern rider ended up on the ground from four of his five rides, including 2-5 favourite Lord of the Sky, who took a heavy fall at the second-last flight in the Robert Chester Novices' Hurdle.

The race went to Peter Monteith's ultra-consistent mare Sillymore, winning her sixth race in 17 starts, having only once finished out of the first four.
