King's Best came with a powerful late surge to land the Sagitta 2000 Guineas at Newmarket today to give local trainer Sir Michael Stoute his fourth victory in the Classic.
Primo Valentino made the early running at a good gallop with Zoning and Giant's Causeway racing in touch.
As the 27-runner field raced into the dip Zoning moved up to challenge the leader but no sooner had the Godolphin runner taken charge than he was quickly pressed by Giant's Causeway.
Aidan O'Brien's colt looked assured of success until Kieren Fallon unleashed King's Best on the outside and the 13-2 chance cut down the leaders in a matter of strides.
He drew stylishly clear to score by three and a half lengths from Giant's Causeway (7-2 favourite) with Barathea Guest (12-1) keeping on well for third a length and a half further away.
King's Best earned a 6-1 quote for the Vodafone Derby with Victor Chandler for his impressive display this afternoon.
Fallon, winning his first 2000 Guineas, said: 'They went very quick and it was a rough race. I settled him in and he settled well. The turn of foot he has is unbelievable really. It was unbelievable the acceleration he showed.' -PA
