KING`S ON THE ROAD TO CHEPSTOW

King`s Road will have to carry 11st 8lb if he is to add the Coral Welsh National to the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup he won last Saturday, it was revealed today.

Nigel Twiston-Davies` charge, who beat Gingembre by five lengths in the Newbury showpiece, is one of 63 entries for the #75,000 contest at Chepstow on December 27th.

The weights for the race are headed by gallant Becher Chase winner Young Kenny on 12st.

The Peter Beaumont-trained gelding was backed down to 5-2 favourite for this race last year but could only finish sixth behind Edmond, who has been set to carry 10-10 on this occasion.

Martin Pipe, who won the race three consecutive years in the 1990s with Carvill`s Hill, Run For Free and Riverside Boy, has his usual large entry with nine horses including 1997 Martell Grand National winner Lord Gyllene (10-11), who has joined the champion trainer from Steve Brookshaw.

Beaten Hennessy favourite Kingsmark has been set 11-7, the same mark as dual-Grand National runner-up Suny Bay, now in the care of Alex Hales.
