Locally born jockey Willie Supple recorded a double at Killarney today, partnering winners for trainers Kevin O'Brien and Tim Doyle.
Supple's first winner was on Miss Mason in the Cahernane House Hotel Handicap.
The daughter of Daggers Drawn raced in mid division, stayed on well in the straight, eventually getting her head in front close home to deny Phoenix Factor by a head.
Former jump jockey and O'Brien later reported 'Miss Mason probably prefers the ground a little softer and a further trip: I'll see how she is but she may go to Downpatrick on Saturday.'
Half an hour later, Supple, former stable jockey to Kevin Prendergast before moving to England, partnered Summer Magic to win the M.D. O'Shea & Sons Handicap (division 1).
The daughter of Desert Sun eventually stayed on well for a four length win, having been produced with a well timed challenge after entering the straight in eleventh place.
The win was the fifth of the new season for much under-rated trainer Tim Doyle and the Thurles based handler reported 'she's been covered by Chineur and will probably go for another handicap at Limerick on Saturday.'
Trainer Eugene O'Sullivan, whose Arctic Times has now won an impressive 16 point to points and two hunter chases, saddled Teo Perugo to win the Sean Clifford Housing Development Handicap Chase.
Afterwards, O'Sullivan mentioned 'that's William (McCarthy, jockey)'s second winner for me and he used to work for me before going to England.
Teo Perugo loves fast ground and will be kept going in similar races during the summer.'
The opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle went to Henry De Bromhead's Gabrona, under Barry Geraghty.
The daughter of Oscar raced prominently, looked held by Keys Pride on the run to the final flight, but eventually battling well from the final flight to deny Robbie Power's mount by half a length.
Afterwards, De Bromhead reported 'Barry gave her a great ride and did exactly what I told him to do.'
He added 'she's a tough mare who wants a trip and a give in the ground: she'll be left off for the summer now.'
Austin Leahy's Walk In My Shadow won division two of the M.D. O'Shea & Sons Handicap under Wayne Lordan.
Leahy later reported 'she's a tough mare and her mother (Be My Folly) also won three races for us. Walk In My Shadow will probably go to Limerick again on Saturday.'
Oodachee failed to get the better of Ruby Walsh when winning the competitive Seamus Weldon Beginners Chase, under the Champion Jockey.
The Charlie Swan trained gelding reluctantly failed at Fairyhouse recently but responded well enough to Walsh's urgings to hold on for a length and a half win over Mac Three.
Afterwards Swan reported 'he jumped slick today and may go for a Grade 3 chase at Limerick on Sunday, provided the ground is safe.'
