Review KILLARNEY 11TH SEP

There were contrasting fortunes for two of the visiting Australian team at Killarney with Paul Hamblin celebrating victory but Craig Durden left nursing a broken collarbone.

Hamblin was seen to good effect on Monterey Bay in the ladbrokes.ie Ireland V Australia Handicap Chase when prevailing in a driving finish.

The Queensland jockey sent Francis Crowley's gelding to the front at the third last and kept him going well to hold off Knocknabrogue by a length.

Durden only got as far as the third in the ladbrokes.ie International Jockeys Handicap Hurdle when his mount Clock House crashed out.

Anchorsholme and Gaily Bay Jack were brought down by the faller. Barry Geraghty required a stitch to his face while Niall Madden was taken to hospital for x-rays on his arm.

The contest went to Marguerita, who showed improved form to lead three out and stay on strongly to beat Rosmaire by two lengths.

That was the first leg of a 129/1 double for Andrew McNamara who completed the brace when Sargon got the better of Trampoline King in a thrilling finish to the ladbrokes.ie 'Best Prices' Beginners Chase.

Widely Accepted had earlier made an impressive debut over hurdles when taking the Ladbrokes Total Betting Service 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle.

The Joe Crowley-trained gelding cruised through to lead after the third last and Barry Geraghty sat quietly as he went on to beat Bowland Bride by five lengths. He could turn out again at Listowel later this month.

Rights Of Man rushed into the lead before the third flight, in the Ladbrokes 'Financials Fixed Odds Betting' Novice Hurdle, and soon had his rivals well strung out.

He stayed on well down the straight, under amateur Mikey O'Connor, to score by two-and-a-half lengths from Tabaco.

'The biggest problem with this horse is that he doesn't settle,' revealed winning trainer Davy Fitzgerald. 'He's more of a chaser than a hurdler and will go chasing soon. He could also run on the Flat at the Curragh next Sunday.'

Lord Of The Artic, subject of good support in the morning, stayed on stoutly for John Cullen to lead at the last and claim the ladbrokes.ie 'Highest Payout Limit' Handicap Hurdle. Listowel is on the agenda.

Nina Carberry was given a seven-day ban for careless riding following her success on Classic Approach in the bumper. Her mount squeezed up Little Rascal close home, causing the mare to hit the rail.

The Irish team ended the first day of the Ireland V Australia jumping challenge in a 30-18 lead despite the victory of Hamblin.
