KID IS KING IN NEW YORK

Former Dubai World Cup winner Almutawakel could manage only sixth in the Grade Two Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park in New York last night.

The five-year-old, who won the world's richest race for Saeed bin Suroor in 1999, finished some way adrift of last year's Belmont Stakes winner Lemon Drop Kid, who confirmed his return to form with a two-and-a-half-length win.

Second-placed Behrens was having his first outing since filling the same position behind Dubai Millennium in this year's Dubai World Cup in March.

Ex-British horse Dark Moondancer won the feature event on the west coast of the USA on Independence Day.

The five-year-old - trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam in his younger days - took the Grade Three American Handicap at Hollywood Park by a length and a half from Sardaukar - with 1998 Derby fourth Sunshine Street third.
