Richard Johnson is still uncertain over his partner in the Whitbread Gold Cup at Sandown on Saturday.
The jockey will probably be on board either Village King or stablemate Bouchasson in the last big race of the jumps season.
But a decision on which of the two will not be made until the state of the ground becomes clearer.
Trainer Philip Hobbs said: "At the moment the plan is for both horses to run and that Richard Johnson will ride one of them. But we are going to wait to see what the ground is like before sorting things out."
Village King is returning to action after falling at the 20th fence when still in with every chance in the Martell Grand National. He appears to act on all types of ground.
Bouchasson, who unseated his rider at the Aintree meeting, has shown his best form on soft or heavy going.
