Ryan Treacy was understandably effusive in his praise for Cappacurry Zak after the eleven-year-old travelled sweetly around Proudstown Park before triumphing in the concluding Navan Members Veterans Handicap Chase.
Leslie Young’s charge raced in mid-division and he wasn’t fluent at the fifth.
The chestnut went fourth at the tenth, and he was briefly pushed along four out.
Making headway into second moving well two out, Cappacurry Zak was ridden to lead after the last.
From there the 5/1 shot stayed on well inside the final furlong to beat front-runner Wishmoor by four and a quarter lengths.
“That's six I've won on him now. He's been some servant for me and Leslie Young,” said Treacy.
“He's something else to have in the yard. Leslie isn't here today, he's home doing the work. He's a grafter and it's great to be riding winners for him.
“I followed what I thought was the threat the whole way, as I thought Mick The Jiver could go and win this. I had him in my sights everywhere.
“I didn't want to get there too soon so I was sitting upsides Wishmoor on his girth and I knew he was under pressure and I had a small bit in the tank.
“He'd prick his ears when he hits the front so I wanted something to take me there as far as I could.
“He's great, he has some scope and is a great jumper at home. He's very lairy. The girls and Leslie ride him out at home and he'd bee spooking at everything he sees but when he's in a race he's a different horse all together.
“I'm just delighted to get the job done here again.”
