Invictus impresses at Plumpton

The former Andy Slattery trained Invictus put in an excellent round of jumping to land the totepool Novices Chase at Plumpton this afternoon beating the Tony Martin trained Gift Of Dgab into second.

The winning 5yo son of Flemensfirth won his point-to-point at Horse And Jockey in March of 2010 before being sold for £162,000 at the Cheltenham Brightwell Sales in April of last year to his current connections.

The Alan King trained gelding won just once on his five starts over hurdles but won easily on the first time of asking over fences at Hereford last month and followed up in equally as impressive fashion today.

Robert Thornton never had a moments worry as his mount out jumped his rivals before finding a gap up the inside on the home turn, racing clear before the final flight, which he was flawless over, going on to score by ten lengths at the odds of 7/4.

The 13/8 favourite Gift Of Dgab ran on to take second under Davy Russell with another former point-to-pointer Maringo Bay back in third.
