Brother Of Iris will not race again this term after a veterinary examination revealed a chipped sesamoid bone.
However, trainer Mary Reveley is hopeful that her charge will be back next season.
She said: "The examination showed he had chipped a bone in his sesamoid, they think he did it at the first fence on Saturday.
"He is out for the rest of the season but hopefully he will be OK."
Brother Of Iris was always struggling at the weekend in the Racing Post Chase, being pulled up by jockey Lorcan Wyer when well out of contention.
Before Saturday, he had been quoted as short as 12-1 by some firms for the Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup.
