IRIS IS YORKSHIRE FAVOURITE

Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup hope Brother Of Iris is a best-priced 11-4 favourite with the Tote and William Hill for Saturday's Pertemps Great Yorkshire Chase.

He was left heading the handicap for the Doncaster race on 11st 13lb after the withdrawal today of Random Harvest and the late Unguided Missile.

His trainer Mary Reveley also has Fullopep among the 30 confirmations for a £40,000-added contest she has won with Dalkey Sound and Carbisdale in the past.

The state of the ground will determine whether Reveley runs the duo and she said: "I would like to run them both but if it was soft then neither horse would run.

"But it doesn't usually get too bad at Doncaster so it should be all right."

Fullopep will be ridden by Alan Dempsey but Reveley is still undecided about a partner for Brother of Iris.

Much depends on whether Peter Niven - recovering after damaging a vertebra in his neck - would be fit to return to ride the horse in the Gold Cup.

"If Peter is going to be all right to ride at Cheltenham then it's not so important who partners the horse at Doncaster," said Reveley.

But if Peter isn't going to be ready then I'd like to use somebody on Saturday who'd be available for the Gold Cup."

Trainer Peter Beaumont confirmed Niki Dee to be an intended runner in Saturday's three-mile contest as long there are no extremes of going.

"He's in good shape and on target for the race. Robbie Supple will ride," Beaumont said.

"He would only miss the race if the ground was either heavy or fast."

The going at Doncaster is currently described as good.

Alan King could be double handed in the race having left in Buckhouse Boy and Zaitoon.

King reasoned: "Zaitoon is well out of the weights at the moment (9st 6lb) but we will have a look at what is going to run and see from there.

"Buckhouse boy has 10st 13lb and he will run. I think he has been getting stuck in the mud this season so I think some good ground will help him. That is why we have been targeting for this race - there was some pretty decent ground there last week."

The last two winners, Major Bell and Speaker Weatherill are also in the line-up, along with Village King who scored impressively at Cheltenham on New Year's Eve for Philip Hobbs.
